Welcome to Thus Say the Prophets!

    What is Moshiach Doing at the Gates of Rome?
    Commentary by Messianic Rabbi Yochanan Levine (John of AllFaith) 08.22.10

    This is a bit different from what I usually offer however the following video study from Chabad of Summerlin is awesome, both from a Jewish perspective (intentionally) and from a prophetic point of view (not intentionally).

    This section of AllFaith.com deals with prophecy rather than Messianic Judaism and this page (and these videos) deal with both. My focus here however is on prophecy so I'm placing it in this section (six of one, half dozen of another hehe).

    Those familiar with my writings will be acquainted with my basic prophetic interpretations of current events. For the sake of brevity I'm not going to get into them too much here although as you read my comments most of my related views should become clear enough. I will also include links throughout this page for further study. As always, if you have comments or questions I invite you to contact me through my website or blogs. My views are discussed elsewhere in this section of the site in detail as well as at JewToo.org.

    In brief it is my view that the elders of Israel (both secular and religious) are going to accept a false Mashiach (as foretold by Prophets Daniel, Y'shua, Paul, John and others) in the near future. As this presentation continues the Chabad rabbi unknowingly explains exactly how this is going to happen in terms that are almost identical to what I've been saying for years! This is why I'm posting this. I mean neither disrespect to this rabbi nor to put words into his mouth. Several people have told me that while my views/interpretations sound biblical and logical, Jewish leaders would never accept Rex Mundi as their Mashiach. Certainly they would not if they realized who he was! Sending out warnings are therefore all the more important. These videos demonstrate how he will deceive the Elect people along with many others who will accept him as Mashiach. It will all seem harmonious with the Torah. Nicene Christians will accept him for these reasons as well as for more insidious ones that I discuss elsewhere.

    If you are new to my studies, let me assure that I am a very staunch supporter of Judaism, Jews and Medīnat Yisrā'el (the state of Israel). What is going to happen must happen but the Jewish people (Am Israel) are and will always remain the Elect of God. Nothing in this study should be taken as being anti-Israel.

    To be very clear about this, were we to speak with the Chabad rabbi giving this presentation in these videos he would certainly not agree with several of my comments, however as we Noahide Nazarenes are grafted onto the Tree of Israel (Romans 11) and adopted into the family of Abraham (Romans 2:28; 8:15) whether our Jewish kin accept us as such or not, we have much to learn from them and this is an excellent presentation. Thanks to YouTube we get to listen in!

    Watch each of the following videos and then consider my points on what was shared. I'll try and keep my comments brief. My comments will be listed below the video I am commenting on. Each video 8 or 9 minutes long.

    Note that Parasha 14: Va'era ("I appeared") is Torah portion Sh'mot (Exodus) 6:2 - 9:35. The following occurred during this Torah study and is related to those verses:

    "What Is Moshiach Doing At The Gates OF Rome"
    Moshiach class: Chabad of Summerlin, Los Vegas
    Discussing Parashas Va'era, 1.18.2007

    Comments: The rabbi is referring to this verse when he speaks about Moshe not wanting to obey at first:

    KJV: Exodus 4:13 And he [Moshe] said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

    This is a peculiar verse that seems to stand contextually alone. One can almost sense the Ruach HaKodesh placing these words in Moshe's mouth. The student in the video objects that surely Moshe didn't realize he was speaking of Mashiach but note the rabbi's certainty, whether he did or didn't he did! HaShem wanted this in His Torah.

    Note how later HaShem appoints Aaron and tells Moshe that he (Moshe) will be as Adonai and Aaron will be your prophet (Exodus 7:1). This is related.

    In my study Identifying Mashiach I stress the importance of Torah (the five books of Moshe) and Mashiach's role as a Torah teacher. This is what the rabbi is saying at 3:36. Torah was given to Moshe and it is the power of HaShem that Mashiach will wield. Likewise as I explain there the emerging Nazarene movement's emphasis on Torah and the anomos (Torah rejection) of the Laodicean Church is leading to the establishment of Babylon the Great and Great Gentile Multitude that is beginning to come out of her.

    His discussion about Torah and Moshe continues to 4:30 where he explains that Moshe is the power that drives Mashiach... which explains why the Nicean Church so quick outlawed Torah reading and observance. That's where the power is.

    Around 6:50 the rabbi goes into Moses growing up in Egypt and thereafter contrast that with Mashiach at the gates of Rome, which is where this study gets very interesting in my opinion.

    At 7:29 the rabbi relates the midrash about how Moshe got his speech impediment.

    Comments: Here is the Talmud account (Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Sanhedrin Folio 98a) referenced at 1:56. Its a different version:

    R. Joshua b. Levi met Elijah standing by the entrance of R. Simeon b. Yohai's tomb. He asked him: 'Have I a portion in the world to come?' He replied, 'if this Master desires it.'
    39 R. Joshua b. Levi said, 'I saw two, but heard the voice of a third.'
    40 He then asked him, 'When will the Messiah come?' — 'Go and ask him himself,' was his reply. 'Where is he sitting?' — 'At the gates of Rome.'
    41 And by what sign may I recognise him?' — 'He is sitting among the poor lepers: all of them untie [them]
    42 all at once, and rebandage them together,
    43 whereas he unties and rebandages each separately, [before treating the next], thinking, should I be wanted, [it being time for my appearance as the Messiah] I must not be delayed [through having to bandage a number of sores].' So he went to him and greeted him, saying, 'peace upon thee, Master and Teacher.' 'peace upon thee, O son of Levi,' he replied. 'When wilt thou come Master?' asked he, 'To-day', was his answer. On his returning to Elijah, the latter enquired, 'What did he say to thee?' — 'peace Upon thee, O son of Levi,' he answered. Thereupon he [Elijah] observed, 'He thereby assured thee and thy father of [a portion in] the world to come.' 'He spoke falsely to me,' he rejoined, 'stating that he would come to-day, but has not.' He [Elijah] answered him, 'This is what he said to thee, To-day, if ye will hear his voice.'
    44 The disciples of R. Jose b. Kisma asked him, 'When will the Messiah come?' — He answered, 'I fear lest ye demand a sign of me [that my answer is correct].' They assured him, 'We will demand no sign of you.' So he answered them, 'When this gate
    45 falls down, is rebuilt, falls again, and is again rebuilt, and then falls a third time, before it can be rebuilt the son of David will come.' They said to him, 'Master, give us a sign.' He protested, 'Did ye not assure me that ye would not demand a sign?' They replied, 'Even so, [we desire one].' He said to them. 'if so, let the waters of the grotto of Paneas turn into blood;' and they turned into blood. When he lay dying he said to them, 'place my coffin deep [in the earth],

    The point here is why is Mashiach sitting at the gates of Rome? Why is not in Yerushalayim? One would expect Mashiach to come from there.

    The rabbi says (6:02) that Mashiach may either come from Rome or he will at least be in Rome at this point. This will give him intimate knowledge of how Roman society works, even as Moshe knew Egypt from the inside.

    We know from Prophet Daniel that Rome never fell. It temporarily split east and west but will, in these Last Days, rise again as the "toes" of the Empire come back together under the leadership of the "Little Horn" or Rex Mundi.

    So... its time for Mashiach to come. Where does he come from? From the European Union: The restored Roman Empire.

    Now (6:20) he begins delineating the Holy Bloodline through which Mashiach must come.

    Mashiach comes through David. David comes through Ruth. Ruth was a convert to Judaism. She was a Moabite (from Moab). Remember where they come from?

    Abraham's cousin Lot fled Sodom and Gomorrah as the angels were destroying it (for violating the hospitality laws). Lot's wife 'looked back' and died (turned to salt!). Lot and his two daughters escaped to the hills and tricked Lot into impregnating them. The older of the two gave birth to a son and named his Moab (Genesis 19:37). Ruth descended through this line. Listen to the rabbis description of why this is important!

    The comment that begins at the very end of this video continues in the next and is pretty interesting.

    Comments: So... he asks about the "gates of Rome" (home of the Catholic Church and future home of Babylon the Great).

    Catch that at :33? Rabbi says, Mashiach is not at the gate because they are serving God (suggested by the questioner) but "he is there at the point where they are destroying Jerusalem."

    Now from our prophecy studies we know what this mean right? He is talking -- knowingly or not -- about the point when the Rex Mundi is going to commit the Abomination of Desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet (Matthew 24:15)! How do we know this? Because Revelation 12 tells us that at this point the beast will go after the Jews to destroy them and they will flee into the wilderness! Listen with this in mind as he continues.

    What will Mashiach be doing in Rome at that point according to the our Talmud passage? He will be binding the wounds of the injured!

    As I've often said, Y'shua HaMashiach will be active working with the Great Multitude of Noahide Nazarenes and the 144,000 Jews during the entire seven year period of Tribulation.

    Note that Mashiach exists in "Heaven" before coming [back] to earth and that he is so powerful his power has to be weakened!

    Now... if this idea is correct, and it makes sense, does it not fit with Y'shua being born into questionable circumstances? Being born in an insignificant place, prior to the consummation of his moth and step mother's marriage? This is worth remember when speaking with Jews about the virgin birth.

    Comments: At :34 the rabbi begins again now that the conversations are done. In my study Identifying the Mashiach I discuss the Orthodox Jewish identifiers of the generation in which Mashiach will come. This is what the rabbi is explaining here. Its sounds contradictory for all these things to be true of a single generation and yet today they are!

    • If Am Israel (people Israel) repent in a single day;
    • If Am Israel observes a single Shabbat properly;
    • If Am Israel observes two Shabbats in a row properly;
    • In a generation that is totally innocent or totally guilty;
    • In a generation that loses hope;
    • In a generation where children are totally disrespectful towards their parents and elders;

    As discuss elsewhere this is precisely what will happens.

    At 1:25 the rabbi says Mashiach is coming Egypt and from Rome.

    2:10 When Mashiach is sitting at the gates of Rome it means that Rome is falling apart. The end of Rome builds up Mashiach. Exactly what Daniel says.

    3:00 Now, we know from Y'shua and John that the Laodicean Church will be vomited out but until then the Way Movement is shown as being 'of Rome' because the Mother Church is headquartered there. See this?

    To the Church of the Last Days he says: (Revelation 3:16) So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth...." as the Apostate Church is cast away. But then...

    Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
    3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

    Those who come and request entry are brought in, they leave Rome (Revelation 18:4) and become the Great Multitude of Nazarenes.

    So Y'shua HaMashiach will still be tending to his people who are "in Rome" but then he will lead them away from that City/System!

    3:35 He likens this to Moshe defeating Pharaoh.

    Again, perfectly harmonious with the picture the rabbi is painting for us (albeit not intentionally so).

    "Moshe and Mashiach both have the same idea."

    3:46 He brings up another Talmud source that says Mashiach will be born in a Arab house (or among the Muslims). this, he says raises the question of what will be the final great kingdom when Mashiach comes? Based on these he concludes Christianity (gates of Rome) and Islam. This is especially interesting as seems to conclude its uncertain. As it now is! In other words one might say that Mashiach will come before the question is decided either way.

    7:5 Here is the verse. Taken as written it does suggest what he is saying:

    Hosea 1:11 Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

    Note also that it says the the children of Judah and the children of Israel. Mashiach is going to restore the 10 Lost Houses of Israel. Recall that Ephraim has been scattered among the nations since being divorced by HaShem (Jeremiah 3:8) which agree with Zechariah 8:20-23).

    The implications are many as I'm sure you can understand.

    7:24 So Mashiach will not start out in Israel according to Jewish expectations.

    8:38: Here the following verses are quoted showing that Mashiach will not be an incarnation of God as Nicene Christians believe, but rather our elder brother (even as Hebrew 2:11 makes clear):

    Song of Solomon 8:1 O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.
    8:2 I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

    The rabbi point here is that Mashiach and his talmidim are being led from among the nations and back to Israel. This is very important to remember.

    9:25 He begins to discus a 2000 year old midrash (written well before the birth of Muhammad and the rise of Islam) that speak of Arabs ruling the world. Something unheard of at the time. The Arabs were just chaotic worshipers of the 360 gods of Mecca.

    He points out that one united Arab nation (i.e. the United Ummah of Islam) will rule and the individual Arab nations will be fighting.... The the video ends to be continued in the next one.

    Comments: As I said at the outset, this discussion is going on at a Chabad center. Chabad was led by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of righteous memory (April 5, 1902 OS – June 12, 1994 NS), the seventh leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty. This is who the rabbi is speaking of as citing these passages. this is significant because many of his followers still believe the Rebbe is the Mashiach, even though he has passed on. Because of this, many Chabad-Lubavitch talmidim (students) have examined the Torah for evidence that a tzadik of such unprecedented merit and holiness as the Lubavitcher Rebbe might actually return from the dead to fulfill the Messianic prophecies! The rabbi is clear on this point beginning at 1:05.

    Sound familiar? More on this shortly as the rabbi continues.

    Note however that the Lubavitcher Rebbe was convinced Mashiach (he?) would establish the kingdom and defeat the Ummah of Islam shortly! The parallels with Y'shua and the prophets of the B'rit Hadashah are obvious!

    1:57 Here our B'rit Hadashah is clearer because the rabbi cites his midras as saying Mashiach is going to stand on the top of the Beit HaMikdash and make this proclamation, "humble fear not."

    Now... here is where we get into why I am sharing this. Listen to rabbi's explanation of how this prophecy will come to pass. There is a problem for the Jews here.

    According to the Scriptures as well as a lot of Jewish tradition only Mashiach can rebuilt the Third Beit HaMikdash. So... how is Mashiach going to stand on a building he has not yet caused to be built?

    201: Mashiach must build Beit HaMikdash. "So it makes no sense" and so he offers an alternative....

    2:31 The Torah House in Babylon could be referenced? This would support the idea of Mashiach coming from outside of Israel, from Babylon.

    Now... As you have probably figured out by now, I believe the rabbi is UNKNOWINGLY setting the stage for how and why the Jews are going to accept the "Little Horn" or "Man of Sin." Consider this verse:

    Micah 5:5 And this man [the true Mashiach] shall be the peace, when the Assyrian [the false Mashiach] shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
    5:6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
    5:7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
    5:8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

    This is precisely the scenario laid out by the prophets.

    4:50 Not to be mean to the participants but I do find it interesting that at this precise moment in the discussion they get "silly" and start joking. Does this mean anything? Who can say. Its a heavy topic, but its worth noting I think. Notice how the rabbi sits back to wait.

    6:00 The topic of Iran comes up and the question, who is going to say 'Don't worry humble people.' We recall this from the B'rit Hadashah:

    I Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

    The rabbi is this call needs to be sounded. The question is, "Who is it now in line 3 telling us don't worry? Today we don;t have somebody saying that." Note the rabbis hesitation before he offers his answer.

    Then he says something that many of my online friends have questioned my accuracy on. People say to me, "We know many Christians believe these are the Last Days, but Jews don't believe this do they? The rabbi here says that all the great tzadikim (sages) have said we are on the cusp of the Messianic age. The Holocaust etc. are, he says, the birth pangs of Mashiach. exactly what many of us have been pointing out.

    Comments: We now begin the final video where much of this information comes together.

    Note that the Lubavitcher Rebbe wisely counseled that by Israel trying to trade land for peace they are inadvertently causing Jewish deaths.

    He repeats that Moshe and Mashiach are inexorably bound together. we can understand this because the farther Nicean Christians move away from Torah the weaker and less like Y'shua's true talmidim they become. Eventually they will be vomited out, cast out of god's presence entirely due to their anomos (Torah-denial).

    Rabbi repeats that "most sources" [i.e. most Jewish scholars] say Mashiach will appear outside of Israel and bring Jews with him to Israel.

    An interesting analogy is made about how Moshe died in the desert and didn't lead the generation of the Exodus into the Promised Land. Now Mashiach will appear "in the desert" and bring the Jews into Promised Land.

    At 2:54 the rabbi, stressing the times, says, he prays that Mashiach will come before the end of the class and taken them all to Israel. This is significant. Because Jewish prophetic understanding does not acknowledge the one Daniel calls the Little Horn (or believes he has already come and come as Antiochus Epiphanes, they believe Mashiach could come at any point. I'll discus this more in my concluding comments below.

    3:30 Here the rabbi makes an important point that we Nazarenes should also heed. By studying Torah (all the revealed Scriptures) and gaining ever deeper understanding about the prophecies we hasten the coming of Mashiach and our readiness to accept him. This helps not only ourselves but advances the spiritual renewal and redemption of the entire universe! Let's just make sure we are embracing the true Mashiach!

    3:40 The question is asked whether the Mashiach will come as a baby or as a grown man. Think about this! The Tanakh is clear that Mashiach is to be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2 etc). If one does not accept that Y'shua of Nazareth is Mashiach then Mashiach has yet to come and must be born, correct? Listen to the rabbi's answer! He has to be in a human form and he has to be an adult already! Mashiach will have to be a spiritual leader of the Jewish people, he will have to be a political leader of the Jewish people, he will have to be expert in and fully obedient to Torah (Oral as well as Written), he exist today already "somewhere."

    Next the rabbi is asked whether the Mashiach, since he is already alive on the earth today, could be killed (4:09). Rabbi quote Maimonides as saying that if the Mashiach is killed that is proof that he is not the Mashiach. Think about this. the supposition is that he is Mashiach, and IF he is killed... not that he is a mere claimant. Does this mean Mashiach will be invincible? Imagine the sign that would be! He is shot, stabbed etc and nothing can harm him.

    See my 3892 - 3896 HH -- 132-136 CE: The Bar Kokhba Revolt: The last Jewish - Roman War for info on this Messianic claimant.

    As I mentioned above, Chabad is the organization of the Lubavitcher Rebe and some Chabad Jews (and others) today believe the Rebe is the Mashiach even though he died June 12, 1994. The rabbi says, the question is, can Mashiach die and 'reemerge'? "Not assassinated but could he die [as the Lubavitcher Rebe did] and come back alive." He says there are sources that say he could and... end of video! Abruptly. Why?

    Concluding Comments:

    So let's think about what we have heard.

    This rabbi -- and he is quite learned and speaks in harmony with many other rabbis both within and without Chabad -- paints the following scenario:

    • Mashiach will come from outside of Israel, unite the Jews and bring them to Israel.
    • Mashiach will come from/through the power structures of Rome and Babylon (Iraq) which means through both Christendom and Islam. Consider the relationship presented in the Book of Revelation. The False Prophet will arise in Rome (as leader of Babylon the Great) and the Rex Mundi is known as the Assyrian. The connection between Assyria and Babylon/Iraq is obvious. The Rex Mundi must arise from Europa according to the prophets and the Southern Greek Isles were formerly part of both the Assyrian and Roman Empire. Greece also connects the Eastern Orthodox and (Roman) Catholic branches of the Church. This is not proof however it does fit in with the flow of Nazarene prophetic understanding as well as what this rabbi tells us of the Mashiach who the Jews will accept for a time. So when the Rex Mundi arises in this way there is support established by the rabbis for accepting him.
    • Mashiach will come as an adult male and maybe from either an Arab or Christian background according to the rabbi, although he will obviously be Jewish. Christians believe Jesus will return on a white horse as an adult rather than being born again in a manger. A many of uncertain origins would be accepted by both Jews and Christians.
    • Mashiach will have full knowledge of other cultures and religions and use that knowledge to draw them to himself. This is harmonious with the fact that not only the Jews and Christians will accept Rex Mundi, but so will those of all religious systems. The rabbi here foresees a man who is intimately knowledgeable of the world's religions and who will use that knowledge to establish global people both between the religions and nations but more specifically between the Goyim and the Jews.
    • Mashiach's ancestry (as a mamser) may be a bit murky and uncertain (like Y'shua's) the rabbi says. He explains how this uncertainty can even be considered evidence of his legitimacy rather than as a negative. Ties, perhaps even by blood, to not only the Jews but through the more inclusive San Grael lineage will therefore viewed in a positive light as long as his essential Israelite heritage is confirmed!
    • Mashiach will be a great humanitarian he tells us, binding the people's wounds and healing their divisions as he establishes global peace and of course Prophet Paul says that:
      I Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

    My point here is to demonstrate that when Rex Mundi arises it is completely reasonable that the elders of Medīnat Yisrā'el (the nation of Israel) as well as the Orthodox religious leaders of the Jews will accept him believing, based on their Scriptures and traditions, that he is who he will claim to be.

    There is NOTHING unrealistic about what we are saying is happening for those who accept that 1). The God of Israel exists and 2). that He intends to send Mashiach and fulfill the biblical prophecies. If these two points are accepted, everything else biblically established, historically consistent and as current as the front page of the newspaper.
