A Little "Fire and Brimstone" Truth

By Rabbi Shlomo Nachman © November 14, 2017(last updated July 14, 2018)

Barukh atah Adonai Eloheinu melekh ha’olam
asher kid’shanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu la’asok b’divrei torah.

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe,
who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to study words of Torah.

I am not usually so direct but this is vital to understand! It is blasphemy to call any man "Lord" with a capital "L." Only HaShem is Lord and He shares His glory with no one:

"I am the Lord [Sacred Name], that is My Name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to the graven images." Isaiah 42:8

I realize there are "lords and ladies" of the court. I am not referring to such royals here. I am referring to religious references of a human being as the Lord. There is but one Lord.

On the above verse Rashi notes:

... that is My Name: This is explained as an expression of Lordship and power. I must show that I am the Master. Therefore, My glory I will not give to another, that the heathens shall rule over My people forever and say that the hand of their God is powerful.

For HaShem to share or divide His Power and Glory with another being would be to deny His all powerful nature and disavow His eternal Covenant with our people. It would make Him a limited being like the ba'als and other Pagan gods and would make Judaism merely another religious system. Neither is possible.

Rather the One True LORD says:

"For their rock is not like our [Mighty] Rock. Nevertheless, our enemies sit in judgment....
Vengeance is poised with Me, and it will pay at the time their foot stumbles. For the appointed day of their reckoning is near, and what is destined for them hastens.
When the Lord will judge His people, and will reconsider His servants, when He sees that the power is increasing, and none is controlled or strengthened.
Then He will say, "Where is their deity, the rock in which they trusted,
who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their libations? Let them arise and help you! Let them be your shelter!
See now that it is I! I am the One, and there is no god like Me! I cause death and grant life. I strike, but I heal, and no one can rescue from My Hand!
For I raise up My hand to heaven, and say, 'As I live forever.'
When I sharpen the blade of My sword, and My hand grasps judgment, I will bring vengeance upon My adversaries and repay those who hate Me.
I will intoxicate My arrows with blood, and My sword will consume flesh, from the blood of the slain and the captives, from the first breach of the enemy.'
Sing out praise, O you nations, for His people! For He will avenge the blood of His servants, inflict revenge upon His adversaries, and appease His land [and] His people. Deuteronomy 32::31-43

For now the Eternal Covenent People of G-d continue to be shamed by the so-called gods of the other nations because of our lack of emunah (active faith/trust) in our G-d. But the Day of Reckoning is coming. HaShem will vindicate His Name and His people. THEN as it is written:

"So said the Lord of Hosts: [There will] yet [be a time] that peoples and the inhabitants of many cities shall come.
And the inhabitants of one shall go to another, saying, "Let us go to pray before the Lord and to entreat the Lord of Hosts. I, too, will go."
And many peoples and powerful nations shall come to entreat the Lord of Hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord.
So said the Lord of Hosts: In those days, when ten men of all the languages of the nations shall take hold of the skirt of a Jewish man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you." Zechariah 8.
Again:
"Why have nations gathered and [why do] kingdoms think vain things?
Kings of a land stand up, and nobles take counsel together against the Lord and against His anointed [i.e. the Jews]?...
He Who dwells in Heaven laughs; the Lord mocks them...
"But I have enthroned My king on Zion, My holy mount."...
Arm yourselves with purity lest He become angry and you perish in the way, for in a moment His wrath will be kindled; the praises of all who take refuge in Him. Psalm 2
All of these false religions will fade away and then:
"Behold! A day of the Lord is coming, and your plunder shall be shared within you....
And I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to wage war; and the city shall be captured, and the houses shall be plundered, and the women shall be ravished, and half the city shall go forth into exile-and the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city....
THIS will bring Mashiach ben Yosef followed by Mashiach ben David.
And the Lord shall go forth and wage war with those nations, like the day he waged war on the day of the battle....
And it shall come to pass on that day that there shall be no light, only disappearing light and thick darkness.
And it shall be one day that shall be known to the Lord, neither day nor night; and it shall come to pass that at eventide it shall be light. ...
And the Lord shall become King over all the earth; on that day shall the Lord be one, and His Name One...
And they [the *ews] shall dwell therein, and there shall be no more destruction; but Jerusalem shall dwell in safety.
And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the nations who besieged Jerusalem; his flesh will waste away while he still stands on his feet; his eyes will waste away in their sockets, and his tongue shall waste away in his mouth...
And it will come to pass that everyone left of the nations who came up against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to prostrate himself to the King, the Lord of Hosts, and to celebrate the festival of Tabernacles.
And it shall be that whoever of all the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to prostrate himself to the King, the Lord of Hosts-upon them there shall be no rain....
Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to the Lord of Hosts, and all who sacrifice will come and take of them and cook in them; and there will no longer be a trafficker in the House of the Lord of Hosts on that day.
Zechariah 14

My friends, seek HaShem while He may be found!
He is found in the religion He Himself created and has preserved, Judaism. So...

"If it displeases you to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell, but as for me and my household, we shall serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:15

It is your choice.
