OldCovenant.com A response by John of AllFaith, Nov. 2006 |

Subject: OldCovenant.comQuestion: Hi John,
Do you happen to know if www.OldCovenant.com is really true ?
John of AllFaith's reply
Hi Al,
I hadn't see this site before, thanks for sharing it with me.
What is "true" is not quite as obvious as we often believe. I also believe that the religion of Jesus has been seriously altered by teachings that neither Jesus nor his disciples taught... I would not however refer to the Roman Catholics, Baptists, Seventh Day Adventists etc. in the negative light he does. There are many godly people in all religions and denominations, including these. As for this website however...
I've only spent about ten minutes there so far. I intend to check it out completely when I have the time. It has some interesting ideas, some I consider accurate, others I don't. He is still basing certain of his assumptions on doctrines that originated within the Roman Counsels however. This is what so limited the success of the Protestant Reformers who intended to "restore the true faith". I'll discuss this in my more detailed reply.
I think I'll accept his challenge: "If you feel that you are able to refute these facts, then please e-mail your refutes to us."
For now, as for your question, no, I don't think this site is "really true," at least not completely, but it is interesting.
Before commenting on his specific points, I want to finish studying what he says on the site.
As all questions I receive through AllExperts, this one will be posted at http://www.allfaith.com/Questions under the "General Christian" heading of that page. Once I've crafted my response, it will either be added as an addendum to this answer and/or there will be a link to my reply. At this point, I am considering doing a webpage about the points he raises on his site, linking to it and encouraging him to reciprocate. I need to study it before I decide however and I didn't want you to have to wait that long for my reply to you. My response will probably be ready within the week depending on what else is up for me. If you would like me to let you know when its done, visit my Answer website (http://www.allfaith.com/Questions) and use the "Contact John of AllFaith" option with your e-mail address (we don't get them them through AllExperts.com).
Again, thanks a lot!

John of AllFaith's Followup
OK, now I've read the entire website. The basic premise of the site seems to be at which point one divides the "Old" from the "New" Covenant.
On this point the site seems to be basically correct. The New Covenant Church does not begin until the Day of Pentecost, after the resurrection of Jesus, which seems to be the main point. I don't understand why this is considered controversial. This is what all denominations teach. The traditional division of the Bible between Malachi and Matthew is not based on this however, but on the end of the Hebrew Tanakh and the beginning of the Greek texts, of which the Gospels were the last written, so the point is moot. The addition of the title page is no more problematic than the addition of chapters and verses. The use of the phrase "New Testament" doesn't mean the New Covenant began at Matthew 1:1. Who believes that anyway? Matthew 1:1 begins before the birth of Jesus so how could it begin at that point.
The site argues that divorce is not prohibited for Christians. This is clearly true. The Torah commands, the Law, do not apply to Gentiles but to Jews. Gentiles are never under the Law. So again, what's the point?
Frankly, this site contains a lot of debate over non-issues in my opinion.
